Tell Me About Yourself
A standard opening question asking you to introduce yourself. It expects a concise walkthrough of your background, the projects and experience relevant to this role, your technical strengths, and your motivation for applying — tailored to the company and the position rather than a verbatim recital of your resume.
What's evaluated
- Whether you can select and sequence: roughly two minutes of the most relevant history, not a chronological dump of every job you have held
- Relevance signal — the projects you choose to highlight should map onto what this team actually builds
- Communication and structure under a deliberately open prompt; this is the interviewer's first read on how you will explain a system later in the loop
- A clear, specific motivation for the role that gives the conversation somewhere to go next
- Concision — an answer that runs long without landing anywhere is itself the data point
