Expedia SDE-1 Bellevue — phone + 5-hr onsite (behavioral, SQL, OOD)

Status: 1 year of experience, BS Top 50 school
Position: SDE1 at Expedia
Location: Bellevue, Washington

Technical Phone Screen (1 hour)

• Was asked to solve a leetcode easy question and then a DP problem over the phone on coderpad (number of ways to make change given coin values and desired sum).

Onsite Interview (5 hour, no lunch interview)

• First interview asked behavioral questions
• Second interview asked about SQL. Trivia (indexes, primary, foreign key, constraints, etc) and then actual SQL queries
• Lunch (No interview)
• Third asked whiteboard algorithm question. Find if a word is an anagram of another.
• Fourth was manager interview. Whiteboard design problem. How would you design a calendar that keeps track of support rotation? What if someone is on vacation? How would you implement secondary support?

Culture
The culture at Expedia is very relaxed. There is great work life balance and there are a lot of teams. There is internal policy to switch teams if you dont like team.
